Eloise's summer

Several years ago, director Lize Cuveele made a documentary in which young women of color talk about their experience of having their hair detangled and straightened as children, in order to lean as closely as possible to the Western ideal of beauty. Since then, the subject has not left her. In her research she discovered that, as a white person, she knew too little about the lives of people of color. Their stories touched her deeply and motivated her to help create a more inclusive world and expose blind spots in her own outlook and the public eye, through film.
